Sensor Mount

Sensor Mount

Simple, ultra-reliable mounting for proximity sensors.

We improved the everyday sensor mount

Proximity sensors are counted upon to improve accuracy and accountability in manufacturing environments. The mounts that keep them in place on conveyor systems and industrial automation equipment, however, can be a point of weakness.

That’s why we did some detective work at numerous automation lines. We uncovered some flawed designs – and engineered a better solution.

Hybrid construction

Material is the first difference you’ll notice with HellermannTyton’s sensor mount. It’s manufactured from a combination of PPS and zinc-plated steel. The resin portion is where the locknuts attach. PPS tolerates moderate torque when tightening, and the locknuts can bite into the material to reduce the chance of loosening under vibration.

PPS also flexes a bit, enough to absorb impact instead of letting a delicate sensor do it.

The steel base allows for dependable, stable surface mounting. We incorporated a smile-configuration for mounting holes to accommodate flexible fastening options.

This hybrid material reduces component costs without sacrificing functionality.

But the best part …

… is the exclusive Rear-Side Locknut Retention Gap. It’s a locknut retainer that holds the rear hexagonal jam nut in position – like a dedicated wrench – while the installer wrenches or hand tightens the front-facing locknut.

This means one tool (if needed) instead of two. Traditional sensor installation can be cumbersome, especially in tight spaces. So, our solution reduces assembly time and simplifies mounting and repositioning.

Down to the last detail

It’s that signature HellermannTyton “extra mile.” As wire management leaders, we like to make sure wires have a place to go, even excess wire, to provide strain relief. So, we added two cable tie slots just in case.

The vertical slots guide the sensor into place. And the “locating grooves” help with alignment.

The HellermannTyton Sensor Mount is for 18 mm proximity sensors with 24 mm hex nuts. Watch for 8 mm and 12 mm sizes, coming soon.
